Changing stats

Changing stats

In auto leagues, if I change a player’s stats, for example, to take advantage of a year of significantly improved defense usually at the expense of decreased offense, can I switch back to the original stats if it doesn’t work out? Or are am I stuck with the change until the season ends? Are there limits on how many times you can switch back and forth? I realize that in some leagues there is a time, usually late in the season, when changing stats is no longer allowed. Have never switched stats before, so just trying to understand the pros and cons of doing so. Thanks for any comments. I enjoy the game and the helpful feedback that is shared.

Re: Changing stats

I change years all the time. i have never had any problem changing back till near the end of the season. like you said. sometimes i even change the stats if they go on slump buster. look for a much better season in fire but make sure you change back when there slumpbuster is over.

Re: Re: Changing stats

I think that after game 125 changing Seasons gets locked, at least in Auto Leagues, anyone?

Re: Changing stats

After game 140 .

Re: Re: Changing stats

Thanks Sheik, I knew there was a cut off

Re: Changing stats

Hard to believe changing stats during season is allowed. You mean I can start with a defensive Tony Gwynn and once he hits slump buster switch to an offensive one? Or use a pitcher's bad season until he reaches 25 IP then switch him to his ace status on slump buster? Or worse, wait until closer to end of season to do this to get them on SB for playoffs?

Re: Re: Changing stats

I thought it would have matched the last day for changing park dimensions and logo, which is what, Game 7 or something? I think it should be changed to that, but it doesn’t really affect me since I’m not playing autos right now.

Re: Re: Changing stats

I have never thought of using a pitchers bad season to get him Slump Buster Eligible, I am just not that devious.

However now that you bring it up I am sure that it will become common practice, the " Hey, if the Rules allow it" Crowd will never fail to seize upon a chance to game the SIM and gain an unfair advantage on their competition.

Re: Changing stats

I don’t think using a bad season and switching after slump Buster will catch on because it isn’t worth it

1) sometimes your ace slumps and you get slump Buster anyways

2) in order to get slump Buster you need a 5 ERA, meaning getting pulled early, meaning it takes 4-5 games to get 25 ip. Who wants to sacrifice 5 games for a temporary 20%?

I love switch seasons, but for things like: taking better defensive seasons, taking a season with lower average but more power, taking a better speed season, taking a different position (Pujols has good OF and 1B seasons)- all depending on my specific team building strategy for the season. But I don’t think it’s worth it to try to take the system by switching back and forth. In season switches for me are purely because a season I tried isnt working.

Re: Re: Changing stats

Yeah, you don't want to get caught up in "gaming the game" schemes and overthink things. I usually do all my stat changes pre-season unless something necessitates it. For example, I've switched Thome to 3B if I have an injury to my starting 3B and I have a good backup 1B/DH type on the bench. Doing it to create a Slumpbuster situation seems a bit on the counter-productive side.

Re: Changing stats

Well Slump Buster is 30 Days, at 3 games a Day that's 90 games, divided by 5 that's 18 starts - and if the 1st outing or so doesn't result in getting that ERA under 5.00 you can Re-Start SLUMP BUSTER and possibly get up to say 20 starts - that's an 8th of the Season.

I remember when Slump Buster was season long and Guy adjusted it because it was 1) not realistic, 2) just too powerful an advantage.

I agree with Gus that changing seasons should not be allowed after Parks lock too.

Re: Re: Changing stats

Andrew Jones best of 2000's is great example of a player I can toggle if he is available for slump bust...

Everybody with almost no excepetions, uses it's 2000 season... in fact his defense is great but his hitting is irrelevant....

If you have no other options as a slump bust...

The 2005 Andrew Jones season may become a good option to use with, is 51 hrs and 17 fire, but a lesser but still very good dWAR , if he is the only player available to slump bust, because his hitting may become relevant and you can surely take the 40 HR it can produce if he is slump busted...
