Basketball Strategy and Tips

Like any game, it can take some time to learn the ropes. But here a few things to help you get off to a good start in the basketball sim leagues:

Balance your team

Loading up on studs doesn't always work. There are only so many shots to go around. If you neglect role players - guys who can rebound and play defense - you're likely to struggle.

Don't forget defense

Defensive Win Share (DWS) results in forcing missed shots. The higher the win share, the more likely your defender will force a miss on any given shot. (Over 4.0 for DWS is pretty great.) Don't forget to put at least some focus on defense. This also includes steals and rebounds. The more turnovers you can generate, the more success you're likely to have.

Set your Waves

I personally like to set my lineup, then do a quick CPU Create for my Waves. From there, I can tweak my waves if I desire. If I don't like a sub the CPU has selected for my Wave, I can easily swap with the "Swap Player" feature from the "Edit Waves" page.

Defensive Assignments

Don't forget, if you're playing a great player, you can choose to double team him more often. This strategy can backfire, but sometimes it works.

Shooting percentage matters

Lots of managers choose to put together as many high-percentage shooters as possible. Don't negelct to focus on a player's percentage. Also, a player who draws fouls can be valuable because he'll get to the free throw line more often.

Study the winning managers

This is a key concept. Watch the managers who win a lot and who have been playing the game for a while - they've likely learned a few tricks, so copy some of their strategies.
