Turnovers

Turnovers

gbacci, I'm wondering how the football leagues are doing with turnovers. I know I've seen some notes about too many blocked punts. I'm in a custom 1980 league with bhicks and it seems like there are way too many turnovers. (Interceptions/fumbles) as well as blocked punts. Just curious what you are seeing across all of the other leagues?

Re: Turnovers

Thanks for the heads up. The blocked punt issue was due to kickers in that league not having many punt attempts. I’ve recently adjusted that. I haven’t checked other leagues but I’d guess blocked punts is a non issue.

I’d have to run some analysis on INTs and fumbles. In the beta tests, fumbles seemed fine and INTs were initially running very high and then after tweaks were far more realistic. But I haven’t analyzed deeply since the beta. Historic replay leagues are different animals so they will require their own analysis.

Re: Re: Turnovers

Following up on the above, I spot checked a few auto leagues and the rates all seem realistic. If a QB winds up attempting a lot more passes than he did in real life, then his total INTs will be up. The Raiders in that league lead with 25 INTs, Plunkett has 22, but he's 1% lower than his real life INT rate, he's just attempted far more passes than he did in 1980, and since his team is losing most games, it's no surprise he's passing a lot.

If you have any specific player examples of high INTs or fumbles let me know because I can look into it - it could be due to low attempt rates, similar to the adjustment I had to make for punt blocks.

Ironically, the Raiders are the only huge outlier in that league in terms of how they are doing compared to how they did in the real life 1980 season. (That, of course, I have to attribute to dalpho's coaching.) Considering the small sample size of a football season, I'm happy to see bhicks league is generally playing out in a realistic fashion, at least in terms of standings.

Re: Turnovers

One more data point here, I checked bhicks league:

1980, INTs ranged from 35 to 12 with the median being 24 - the league median is currently 16. Fumbles were 42 to 15 with a median of 32. The league has a median of 17 right now. Hate to say it, but there actually are not ENOUGH turnovers. But that could be due to teams not playing turnover-prone players as much.

Re: Turnovers

lol, okay thanks for looking into it!
