Pitcher hr factor impact?
How much of a factor do you guys think the pitcher hr factor is? I am in a league where the 1995 Maddux gave up only 8 HRs in 209 ip in historical stats but in sim stats he has given up 37 HRs in 244 ip. Park is normal for right and big dis for lefties. He has allowed the 6th most HRs in this league.! Just asking if this is just an anomaly or if the pitcher HR allowed factor is just weak in the sim in your opinion. Should it be a serious consideration when drafting?

Look at his prior seasons in that league, you can't get an exact idea because of park configuration skewing some years, but, at least you can see if its a real anomaly, bad seasons do happen too.

In my experience the pitcher HR factor is pretty small. It seems that likelihood of a HR is mostly driven by the hitter, which I think makes sense. If deadball pitchers really faced the Bonds, McGwire, Judge types I would not expect them to suppress homers at their career rates.

True, but if McGwire, Bonds and Sosa had been hitting the type of Baseball they did way back when and weren't juiced on steroids, they wouldn't have hit as many Homers either

I've found it to be basically irrelevant in all leagues. I had a reliever on my 1987 Mets (Carlos Diaz) that in real life gave up 1 HR in 91 innings but gave up 15 in 84 IP in the sim. I have had the same experience in all the Autoleagues I played in as well....

I agree, I had Denny McLain give up less HR's than Pete Alexander in an ATG league - it's kinda all over the place.

Fire or oWAR is basically irrelevant unless you are in a league where the 100th best player is only marginally worse than the best player. That's when little edges matter. oWAR is a little edge. My 2 cents.
