Defense....

Defense....

Thought some might enjoy my article on a team I had that had a huge turn around once I improved the defense, namely by swapping Manny for Erstad. :)

Re: Defense....

i love it! but shhhhh, dont tell everyone!

Re: Re: Defense....

‘one thing my studies have taught me is that defense matters far more than I realized.’ Just like we told you with RF :)

Re: Defense....

So true. I always dismissed RF. :)

Re: Defense....

Well…I led that league that season in fewest runs allowed, beat gbacci in the playoffs…then that jamin guy crushed me and I barely scored in the WS…moral of my story is don’t forget some offense…

Re: Defense....

I haven't committed to defense on the site. It's probably why my winning percentage is barely over .500%. But really, it's no fun cheering for pitching or defense. And after all, as Maddux and Glavine used to proclaim on the Atlanta broadcasts on TBS back in the day, chicks dig the long ball (I think I have that right).

Re: Defense....

I would be curious to know the defensive stats on the rest of the players you fielded. Does not look like you had anyone with game breaking defense at any other position.

Re: Re: Defense....

Chicks may dig the long ball, but in the long run they dig winning more.

Re: Defense....

I like it that def matters because if you dont get a good team from the draft it gives you more options to win with more stratgy that way

Re: Re: Defense....

Thanks for mentioning me!!! It really was an exciting and competitive league, with REVEJB, TJM, Mortamar, Rainman, Gbacci and others -- amazing competitors. Currently Wheat23 is in the lead! Good luck everyone!

Thx Jamin. I have had the privilege to play (and learn from) some amazing people through the years. The Sheik, Papadharma (who sadly no longer is active on this site), Jamin and countless others. I've had to become inactive a couple times do to personal things going on, but both times I came back, Guy was more than happy to answer any questions I had about changes to the site. I know this thread was originally about the importance of D, but a large part of what makes this site special is that members that have had a lot of success are willing to share their knowledge with everyone. Back to G's original post, yes....RF is critical. While guys like Manny can crush the ball, they are def a liability on defense. Striking a balance is critical to success.
