Players becoming random since tweak

Players becoming random since tweak

Since the time there was some tweak done to offense... (most probably the ones to match close rthe HR allowed by pitchers)

So many players lost their assets and became so random and uselless.

There was a reason where we would pick Vlad Guerrero over Bip Roberts... or the other way around...

Guerrero was never a star in best of 1990's, but he would bring more power to the table than an average player or Bip Roberts...

now over a fair amount of AB and season... close to 3000 AB, Vlad Guerrero OPS is now at the same level as .... Bip Roberts

I would be picking Bip Roberts, because of his speed, versatility, batting average
or Guerrero because he would bring more power, a better OPS...

why does the game not reflecting this anymore?????

now they are just both any random players with very little assets and both the same 650 OPS expectation.... it is now this way for so many players....

even Cal Ripken or Ivan Rodriguez are having the same OPS expectation than Bip Roberts....

Geoff Jenkins with a , 615 OPS.....

so many players have gone just random....

you can look at the links and click at compare accross league...

guys like Ripken, Guerrero, Gilkey, Jenkins,Rodriguez should bring enough power to the table to have a better OPS than Bip Roberts...

I seriously think the sim needs to be address...

In best of 1980'S league, it his now very difficult to find any decent hitters... so many of the players have gone so bad...

Basically all the players who would be hitting for 725 OPS to 775 OPS have been hurt and became random....

Re: Players becoming random since tweak

I think your point is that offense is down and especially power. And that seems to be true in that league - I don't know what the expectations are for a league average but .245/.311/.390 seems low - especially the slugging %

Re: Re: Players becoming random since t

Power is down, but my point is that not only power is down, but many valuable players lost their assets and saw their offensive stats levelled to the same point as the Bip Roberts of the world ...

And power is down on some kind of players mainly... and some other were not affected... and thats were the problem his...

Some got affected and others not really... so it leaves a bigger gap between a lot of players...

Their offense is now irrelevant....

Their is no point of picking Vlad Guerrero anymore , since is OPS is at the same level as Bip Roberts and co...

his stats line is somehow into a no mans land...

If you select Ripken, Rodriguez, Guerrero or guys like this , you expect better OPS numbers...than Bip Roberts

but for some reason middle of the pack hitters got levelled badly... and their assets got lost in the changes...

It just leads in a huge cut in flexibility and variety regarding rosters and usable/valuable players VS any random players...

Before, you could try to value or evaluate the use of a better hitter over a better defender... not anymore it becomes a no brainer...

Some players were not affected too much by the changes... but a lot of them are...

Here is Mike Piazza best of 1990's ,he use to be close to .875 to .900 ops OPS guy... he now can't reach the ,800 OPS mark...

As a catcher it use to be a jump on him kind of player... but now with is 800 OPS and lower.. not so much you can pass on him...

It looks to me like the right handed hitters with the not so monstreous OBP numbers got affected a lot...

Re: Players becoming random since t

I've looked through some of the players and I'd say this:
Power and offense is down across the league. It's most noticeable with players whose value comes primarily from power.

Re: Re: Players becoming random since t

I can drop you a list of players who were not affected..

basically OBP is up, some batting avg are up....

But there is a group that were basically crippled.....

Re: Players becoming random since t

when you go at league history vs compare across league

Albert Belle : OPS 896 vs 907 = + 10
Frank Thomas : OPS 973 vs 946 = + -27
Larry Walker : OPS 968 vs 943 = -25
Barry Bonds : OPS 936 vs 933 = -3
Chipper Jones : OPS 896 vs 896 = even
Jeff Bagwell : OPS 941 vs 938 = -3

these players wer ejust not affected ( and there is more like that (Palmeiro, McGwire,etc..)

and then

Vlad Guerrero : OPS 727 vs 657 = -70
Rico Brogna : OPS 849 vs 754 = -90

these are blatant ones, and there is a bunch more at -50, -40.
Ellis Burks and Piazza comes to mind

So there is basically a huge gap that was created between star players.... and middle of the pack players

some have pay the note for the drop in offense, and note everybody....

Re: Re: Players becoming random since t

Just want to acknowledge I’m not ignoring the feedback here. It does seem like 80s and 90s players whose main value was power are being hurt by the pitcher Hr change more so than others. OBPs only seem to have slipped maybe 10 points in most cases but OPS down much larger chunks.

Re: Players becoming random since t

It's really a particular gap of players with a specific kind of stats line who are paying the note for the others... as I exposed, many of them saw their stats not moving that much....

Obviously, when look as a whole, it is only a slight change in OPS, etc... but it was done on the back of a targeted group....like I attached some stats line, some have dropped by more than 50 points in OPS, and even some others near 100 points in OPS... this is huge...

The rich, remained rich, the middle of the pack joined the poor....

it does affect 1980, 90, and 2000 also.

Not that I dont like the changes as I thought the offense was to predominant... but unfortunately it looks like the tweak and it's effect were quite unequal on various group of players...

Looks like the Mike Piazza type of stats line were hte ones touched a lot... even in best of 1990 and 2000 is stats or not near what he used to pull out... Piazza's OPS dropped by 50 to 70 points in both type of leagues
